It's not a hard concept to understand because it merely refers to a market sub-division where customers are looking to purchase specific products or services who can be targeted online. The reason this can be profitable is because you can uncover niches where there is not a lot of competition as the larger markets and yet there is the potential to find people who are ready to purchase. First of all, you have to find a good niche and the easiest way to do that is to look into the possibilities using online resources. For example, Amazon and Clickbank are two well-known online marketplaces and if you navigate their web sites you will begin to realize how many niches there are to choose from. They have made this more effortless in the way that they have a lot of different categories and you can also usually see what is selling well. You will want to note down some of these products so that you can refer to them when you would like to move on to the next phase of your research.

Next, you will be removing those product markets from your list that are extremely competitive through keyword research. There are several keyword tools both no-cost and paid and when starting out, most people will use Google's own keyword tool which is one of the free alternatives. The basic aim in keyword research is to begin with broad category words and increasingly drill down into longer key phrases that still have a good search volume. Oftentimes these 'long-tailed' keywords will have less competition and are the ones you should be aiming for in your niche market.

The way to check on the amount of competition for your selected keyword phrases is to type the word within quotation marks into the Google search bar and press enter. You will then see the number of search results returned for that term and this is also the number of web sites you will be competing against. Apparently, you don't want too much competition for any of your keyword phrases. One advantage of this is that some of these terms can be really specific and as such, you may discover people that are ready to purchase rather than those just looking for information.

Having done the research and decided on a possible niche market, you can now begin to build a site using your list of moneymaking niche keywords. A self-hosted Wordpress blog has been found to be especially effective for this, especially if you can use this on a domain that is an exact match for your keyword phrase. If you discover that an exact match domain is available, this can help your site to rank well for the search term although we are not referring to trademark names here but more general buying terms.

As soon as your web site is set up and receiving a modest number of visits, you can then begin to monetize your web site and earn a regular income from it. Alternatively, you may want to sell it down the road as a moneymaking business for which there is a ready market.
